2017 was a good year for premium smartphones, but 2018 promises to be better, this year seems to be the best year to buy a phone with tech companies such as Nokia, Sony, and Samsung launching their new flagship phones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has a unique and amazing design; it is water resistant, has an excellent camera, decent battery life,  and amazing performance.

But it is typical of Samsung to produce an almost perfect phone with the location of the fingerprint sensor next to the camera and fair good implementation of Bixby. The phone is also expensive and goes for as high as $930.

The LG V30 smartphone is a comparable phone made with an aluminum frame, and the latest Gorilla Glass 5 front protects the screen. It offers a unique 4k video recording. The downside, however, is that for a phone of this capacity its battery life is disappointing, it is not capable of controlling any smart home device, and the front camera is just 5MP. The  V30 is relatively affordable compared to other smartphones mentioned it, and it cost £610 and is now available in the US.

Upcoming Phones to Watch out for in 2018

The technology involved in the production of smartphones is evolving at a fast pace, there is always anticipation for the next big thing. We will be taking a display of upcoming phones for 2018.

Huawei P20

Huawei has announced that the P20 will be launched in Paris on 27 March 2018. Huawei is bringing more camera skills to the P20; it is likely that the device will feature three cameras with one being a zoom lens. The device might have face scanning features; it will also have P20 lite and P20 Plus and feature an iPhone like display.

HTC U12

Hopefully, in April 2018, we will be getting another addition to the HTC line. HTC has added the HTC U11+ to its 2018 line-up, the phone will be fitted with an 18:9 display and some areas of the phone will be boosted. Reports have it that HTC will be making a return to dual cameras at the back of its phones in 2018. The company had first ventured into dual cameras on its device with the HTC One M8, and we are looking forward to seeing the HTC U11+ competing with rivals like Huawei and LG.

OnePlus 6

OnePlus is preparing to dazzle us with a new device that will likely launch in May 2018. The design for the device was recently revealed via a leak. The foundation for the OnePlus 6 might probably be Oppo new design for the R15 which had been recently published. The model had no bezels and will use Snapdragon 845 with Android Oreo and Oxygen OS tweaks; it will wear a fingerprint scanner at the rear, as well as a dual camera system on the back. At the rate, Oneplus is updating we will likely be seeing it soon.

Sony Xperia XZ Pro

Sony is continuously updating its phones, but one device that has not yet been updated is the XZ Premium 4K phone. Sony had even replaced it 6month old XZ1 phone with the Xperia XZ2. Rumors are now suggesting that a replacement for the 4K display device, the Sony Xperia XZ Pro will likely be launched at the IFA sometime in August 2018.

LG G7

LG is cooking up something else after dropping the LG V30; rumors are flying around about the G7. LG suggests that moving towards a different brand with the G series and it’s likely going to launch later in the year. However, it is likely that LG had given us a sneak peek of this phone at the MWC 2018 under the codename Neo. The G7 will have a  6-inch OLED display,  powered by Snapdragon 845 and will have a dual 16-megapixel on the rear. We are on the lookout for this device.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

The Samsung Note 9 is one of the most anticipated phones of 2018. The Note 9 will have more enhanced S Pen features and the Bixby 2.0. We are expectant that Samsung will unveil the Note 9 sometime in August.

Apple iPhone 9 and iPhone XI, iPhone X2

Apple’s iPhone  X is a celebration of 10-years of iPhone foundation, and Apple’s 2018 update of the iPhone will take a cue from the iPhone X. We are not sure what Apple will call the new update, but it will likely retain its 19.9 display, feature an aluminum back instead of the stainless steel and eliminate the home button in place of Face ID. We expect the new update to launch sometime in October 2018.

Future BlackBerry phones

BlackBerry is making a comeback as its maker TCL announced a new bronze version of the KeyOne. There have also being confirmations concerning BlackBerry’s plan to launch two phones in 2018.  Blackberry is keeping mum about its plans, so we do not know what they are planning or when the phones will be launched.
