The New Sony Playstation 4
Introducing, the Sony Playstation 4.
Playstation was introduced on 1994, in Japan. The PlayStation or PS was the first video game console to ship a hundred million units, 9 years and 6 months after its initial launch, followed by the Ps2 in 2000, being the best-selling home console to date, which sold over 150 million units as of January 31, 2011.
The latest Ps3 has sold over 70 million as of November 4, 2012 and is estimated to be to reach 77 million. In 2011, the first handheld game console was released, the PSP or Playstation Portable and sold about 71 million units, and was followed with the Playstation Vita in Japan.
On February 20, 2013 Sony officially announced that the PlayStation 4 is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2013. Sony Computer Entertainment president and group CEO, Andrew House stated “ease of access regardless of location or device has been a priority” in the system’s development.” House also said, “Our vision for the future is consumer centric and developer inspired,” adding “new business models that enables more flexibility including episodic and free-to-play”.
PS4 is confirmed to use AMD hardware, the CPU will consist of eight x86-64 cores from AMD. GPU will be using a powerful 1.84TFLOPS AMD. PS4 memory will be using a GDDR5 8GB with a maximum bandwith of 176 GB/s which is 16 times the amount in PS3. Hard disk drive will be built in and Optical Drive (read only) will read BD 6xCAV and DVD 8xCAV.
The PS4 will feature Super-Speed USB (USB 3.0), AUX, Ethernet (10 BASE-T, 100 BASE-TX, and 1000 BASE-T), IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 (EDR). And the Audio Visual output will be using the HDMI, Analog-AV out and Digital Output (optical).
The new PS4 Controller, Dualshock 4 has a small touchpad above its analog sticks and a colored light on the front, with built in speakers and a headphone socket. The START and SELECT buttons have been merged into a single OPTIONS button as well. This new controller is expected to be lighter and can display different colors.
For technology, new is always better most of the time, and will only be improving more. With the announcement of the new PS4 in December, Sony should be expected to offer more, to be able to compete with Ps2’s “Best-selling game console” title.
