Watch Netflix offline on your mobile device
Netflix the entertainment company that specializes in media streaming, mail order DVD and online video on demand made an announcement recently that their content will now be available offline.
Subscribers have been enjoying their Netflix content for a long time, but there are times that you can’t access your favorite shows when you really could use it. Imagine being on a 10 hour non-stop flight, the only thing you can think of what happened in your show’s next episode. Torture, right?
Say no more! Your favorite entertainment streaming service has announced that your shows will now be available for download. This was announced through a tweet last November, “Airplane mode. Road trip mode. Stuck-in-the-subway-for-20-minutes mode. Your favorite stories are now available for download anytime. — Netflix US (@netflix)” (n.d.). You will now have the ability to view your shows via your smartphone, computer, or tablet wherever you are even without a broadband connection. This feature is now available, all you have to do is update your app iOS or Android. As announced by the Director of Product Innovation, Eddy Wu, this update is available for on all plans, and a mix of original programs like “House of Cards”, “Stranger Things”, “The Crown”, and “Orange is the New Black” as well as old movies, and TV shows are now available for download. It won’t be long, but it does seem like the download feature will not just be available for Netflix original content, it appears to be breaking ground for the rest of the content soon.
- Update
Downloading is an uncharted territory for Netflix since they had rejected this idea for a long time. This could have been influenced when they have continuously been one of the most popular applications on the App Store and Goggle Play. A recent report stated that it has just cracked the top stop on mobiles and tablets which ensured the exponential increase in their revenue. Netflix pondered upon the possibility of offline playback lately which could extend the reach of their product to places that do not normally have continuous internet infrastructure.
What is interesting is the availability of this option no matter what plan you have signed up on. This just goes to show that this is not just a ploy to get more customers to upgrade on to a certain plan. Just be ready for the resolution quality, it seems like this update is geared towards mobile and tablet users who are always on the go. The standard resolution doesn’t seem to be that good and switching to the HD version will not do as much. This should not be a problem since Netflix has just made way for users to watch their shows at their most convenient time no matter the internet connection.
- Interface
The update is already available on both iOS and Android platforms and once that this has been applied, you will notice that the interface is seamless. The offline option will be very easy to do since there will be a download button on the menu located under the shows that are already available.
The new interface will group all the titles that you can download and will all put it in one tab for a better operation. High profile content like “Parks and Recreation,” “30 Rock”, and “The Office” are some of the networks shows that are already available for download. You also have access to download movies like “Dazed and Confused,” “Minions,” “Boyhood,” and many more well-known titles.
Amazon Prime may have had a head start on this tech, but either way, Netflix has now taken another step to keep up with competition’s offerings.
Video on demand has been one of the driving forces for faster internet connection. It brings the latest movies to households in a relatively short time. It has advantages over cable or satellite TV as there is no need for a distribution infrastructure.
To feed the needs of consumers, streaming services have taken a page out of cable TV’s playbook. Streaming video services like Amazon Prime and Netflix have also gone into producing original content. These new and exclusive shows have maintained high-quality production values, and created a following for fans.
Besides original content, streaming videos have also been actively sorting through foreign content. These are not limited to English language productions from the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada, but also in international productions from other countries, as well as foreign language series. In 2016, it released more than 120 original movies and series. This number is more than any other streaming service. Regarding content on streaming video, creators have as much leeway to create videos as cable programmers. Programmers have also been looking towards classic movies and TV shows to add to their stable of offerings.
The Netflix streaming service is available in more than 190 countries and territories around the world. Wherever there is the internet, it seems that Netflix is sure to follow.
The offline service allows the user to download their favorite shows and watch it at their convenience. Customers have long asked for this service. Video downloading will benefit those with a slow or intermittent connection. It will also allow the user the ability to download whenever there is a fast connection, with the option to watch the show later.
Netflix is proving that they have been studying consumer needs and preferences. The ability to download videos for later viewing was a feature offered by Amazon Prime and was seen as a distinct advantage over Netflix.
